Graduation Requirements

A Personal Graduation Plan (PGP) will be prepared for any student in a middle school or beyond.  The PGP will be designed and implemented by a guidance counselor.  The plan will among other items identify the student's educational goals, address the parent's educational expectations for the student, and outline an intensive instruction program for the students.

A student that does not pass the STAAR EOC may not be allowed to participate in the commencement ceremony.  Participation will be determined by the school board at the end of the school year.

Class Rank and Top Ten and Highest Ranking (High School)

Two members of each graduating class shall be honored as valedictorian and salutatorian.  The following selection guidelines shall apply:

The valedictorian and salutatorian shall be named according to the highest weighted cumulative grade point averages, at the end of the 3rd nine weeks of the 12th grade year.   To be considered for valedictorian, salutatorian, or top 10%, a student must have been continuously enrolled at Gateway Charter Academy for the last four consecutive semesters (Fall and Spring) prior to the 12th grade year.

In the event of a tie, the weighted grade point average is computed to the fourth decimal place, and then all semester grades will be averaged.  If there is still a tie, the following procedures shall be used:

1. In the case of a tie for the valedictorian position, the district shall honor valedictorians, and no salutatorian shall be named.

2. In the case of a tie for the salutatorian position, the district shall honor co-salutatorians.
